Study Shows Red Wine and Chocolate Consumption Linked To Anti-Aging

Nov 23, 2018 | Blog

The journal BMC Cell Biology published research linking the consumption of a compound similar to resveratrol to help with aging. Reservatrol is found in red wine and dark chocolate. This substance which is similar to resveratrol was found to help rejuvenate old human cells. This may slow down the aging process.

Researchers in the United Kingdom at the University of Exeter performed the study.

Splicing factors are often inactive as people age. But when resveralogues were added to aging human cells in the study, the splicing factors were reactivated. As a result, old cells appreared younger and they also started to divide again.

“When I saw some of the cells in the culture dish rejuvenating I couldn’t believe it,” says Dr. Latorre. “These old cells were looking like young cells. It was like magic,” she says.

“I repeated the experiments several times and in each case, the cells rejuvenated. I am very excited by the implications and potential for this research,” Dr. Latorre adds.
